Cable lengths

Cable length calculation from the floor plan

Draw the cable routes and DINPanel calculates their lengths, including mounting heights and allowances. Have your own measurement? Enter it instead of the calculated figure.

Where the numbers come from

A length based on the route in your plan

The cable is not measured in a straight line across the middle of the room. DINPanel follows the wall route, including the changes you make yourself.

  • Along the walls, not through the rooms
  • Shared bundles keep each cable measured separately
  • Passages carry cables between floors

Heights and allowances set once

Project settings hold the room height, the route level and the allowances. Each point keeps its own mounting height, with lighting at the ceiling by default.

  • Route at the floor, the ceiling or a custom height
  • Defaults: 2.6 m room height, 1 m at the switchboard, 0.4 m per end
  • Between two points only their height difference is added

Your site measurement takes priority

You can type a length in the circuit. It stays in force until you accept a recalculation after the route changes. Automatic calculation can also be switched off.

  • Length and cross-section for every cable segment
  • Calculation is on by default and optional
  • Metric or imperial units per project

What makes up a cable length

Every part comes from the plan or the project settings.

Route on the plan + Rise and drop to the mounting heights + Passages between floors + Allowances at the switchboard and at each end = Cable length

How it works

  1. Draw the plan

Walls, rooms and the switchboard symbol.

  2. Place the points

Sockets, switches and lights with their heights.

  3. Check the routes

Shape a route only where it should run differently.

  4. Prepare a cable list for purchasing

Cable lengths go to the material list and the quote.

Where the lengths end up

Pages from the demo project. Click a page to see it in full size.

  • Material list Cables in metres, ready for the wholesaler
  • Total cable length In the installation statistics
  • Quote Cables priced per metre

Lengths come from the plan

The more accurate the plan, the more accurate the material list. The plan page shows how points and routes are drawn.

Questions about cable lengths

How does DINPanel calculate the length of a cable?

It measures the route drawn on the plan, adds the rise from the route level to the mounting height of each point, any passages between floors, and the allowances at the switchboard and at each cable end.

What if I do not draw a plan?

Then you type the cable lengths in the circuits. The material list and the quote use them in the same way.

Will a recalculation overwrite the length I typed?

No. A typed length stays until you accept the recalculation offered after a route change.

Can I change the allowances?

Yes. The defaults are 1 m at the switchboard and 0.4 m per cable end, with a 2.6 m room height. You can change them for each project.
